The Cull House, Sayville

The Cull House
75 Terry St.
Sayville, NY 117782

Originally established in 1977 at Corey Beach in Blue Point, until later moving to it’s present location on Terry Street in Sayville, The Cull House has been serving locals and transient boaters 7 days a week, 363 days a year. Located adjacent to the Sayville ferry terminals, along the Brown’s River, transient docking is available a stone’s throw from the restaurant parking lot.
A warm and charming dining area, with a small bar are adorned with sports and boating memorabilia alike. Outdoor dining is available on nicer days with a small tiki bar serving specialty frozen drinks and martinis, as well as your standard cocktails. The owner, John Casey, a Sayville resident, has assured me that they are more than happy to accommodate vegetarians and vegans, as all menu items are fresh and prepared to order.
The menu has options to delight seafood fans and land-lubbers alike, with a myriad of specials throughout the fall and winter seasons. For lunch, diners can choose from a Winter Filet of Cod, Flounder, Salmon, Basa, Sirloin Steak, or Chicken, served broiled, blackened or grilled over a garden or Caesar salad with starch and vegetable for only $12. There are also a few signature salads to choose from. The sandwich board includes the likes of a Grilled Chicken Club, Crab Roll, Shrimp Roll, the famous Lobster Roll, or the delicious Lobster Grilled Cheese with sharp aged cheddar and garlic butter on a grilled panini.
Dinner is always a treat, with a large selection of savory appetizers, or the local raw bar being a wonderful way to start the evening. The fresh made New England or Manhattan chowders or lobster bisque warm the soul- available by the cup, bowl, or in a bread bowl. Live lobsters can be picked right from the tank and are available steamed, broiled, or stuffed in the 1.25lb. to 2lb. and larger range, market price. The pasta choices include a Shellfish Penne ala Vodka, White Clam Sauce linguini, or the “Angry Lobster” which packs a crushed red pepper punch. Dinner entrees range from fried or broiled platters, to shrimp or crab dishes. An 8oz. Filet Mignon, Sliced Sirloin Steak, Chicken Piccata, or fresh ground chopped meat burgers are also available.
Lunch is served Monday through Thursday from Noon until 4pm. Dinner is available from 4pm until 9pm on weekdays, until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and all day Sunday. Due to it’s close proximity to a dense bog along the Brown’s River, The Cull House cannot use a high capacity or chemical dishwasher for environmental concerns. The only option is to serve their delectable meals with disposable plates and utensils. Consequently, the food, service, wine list, and ambience must be top-notch to continue to attract clientele.
Be sure to check the website for the weekly specials, which change every Thursday. A wide array of promotions are carried out year round as well, including the “Trust Us” dinner, and the town favorite “Lobster Madness”. Beer and wine tastings and dinner pairings are also frequent crowd pleasers.
